Not that this cat wasn’t already out of the bag, but the Raiders are hiring Dennis Allen as their head coach.
Three days after rumors spread far and wide that Allen was slotted to be the next coach, the team finally released a statement confirming the reports and scheduling a press conference for Monday to officially introduce Allen to the world.
Although Allen’s hiring isn’t a revelation, the details of his contract are news. One interesting point to note is that the contract Allen has been given is for four years, twice as long as any other recent coach.
Reggie McKenzie has repeatedly said that he wanted the coach to be ‘his guy’ and by empowering Allen with a long term commitment, he’s certainly making a statement about the stability he hopes to instill in the Raiders organization going forward.
It’s clear that McKenzie has a ton of confidence in Allen’s abilities to lead this team. But how do fans feel about turning over the keys to the franchise to a coordinator with no previous NFL head coaching experience?
Something tells me they won’t mind… as long as the Raiders find a way to win.
