The Oakland Raiders have announced the hiring of Jason Tarver as their new defensive coordinator.
Tarver, a former 49ers and Stanford assistant coach, served the 2011 season as the co-defensive coordinator for the Cardinal before which he was an assistant on the San Francisco staff from 2001 through 2010.
Under Tarver and co-coordinator Derek Mason Stanford had one of the most feared defenses in the Pac-12, finishing first in rushing yards allowed (93.3 per game), total yards allowed (331.4 per game), along with allowing the fewest first downs in the conference on a per game basis (17.8).
With the hiring of Tarver the Raiders now have all three coordinators in place, with Greg Knapp taking over as offensive coordinator and Steve Hoffman heading up the special teams.
There are still a number of assistant coaching positions that need to be filled, however.
