Fantasy Focus: Raiders and Chargers for the Championship

Written by on December 24, 2011 in Fantasy Tips - No comments

Raiders Projections:

Carson Palmer: 215 yards passing, 1 TD
Darren McFadden: Out (foot)
Michael Bush: 100 yards rushing, 1 TD, 30 yards receiving
Denarius Moore: 50 yards receiving  (foot)
Darrius Heyward-Bey:  80 yards receiving, 1 TD
Jacoby Ford:  Out (ankle)
TJ Houshmandzadeh: 20 yards receiving
Kevin Boss: 30 yards receiving

Analysis:

Carson Palmer is coming off a pretty solid game in which he threw for 367 yards and one touchdown completing 32 of 40 passes against the Lions in Week 15. Palmer could have sealed the game in the fourth quarter, but Chaz Schilens couldn’t hold on. The Raiders travel to Kansas City this week. The Raiders will be fighting to stay in the playoff race and we expect Palmer to have a solid game.

Darrius Heyward-Bey caught eight passes for a career-high 155 yards and one touchdown against the Lions. This was clearly DHB’s best performances of his career. He’s a WR1 this week against the Chiefs. DHB is quickly becoming an elite WR in the NFL. Start’em if you got him.

Chargers Projections:

Philip Rivers: 280 yards passing, 2 TD
Ryan Mathews:  80 yards rushing, 35 yards receiving
Mike Tolbert: 25 yards rushing, 20 yards receiving (questionable, hamstring)
Vincent Jackson: 85 yards receiving, 1 TD (questionable, hamstring)
Malcom Floyd:  40 yards receiving (questionable, hip)
Antonio Gates: 65 yards receiving 1TD (questionable, foot)
Vincent Brown: 35 yards receiving

Analysis:

Philip Rivers had a heck of a game against one of the better defenses in the NFL against the Ravens. Rivers completed 17 of 23 passes for 270 yards and a touchdown. Whatever injury was bothering him through the first 12 weeks of the season has clearly healed. Rivers has thrown for 804, seven touchdowns and ZERO interceptions. If you survived Rivers and made the Championship game, Start’em him.

Vincent Jackson had three receptions for 84 yards on Sunday Night versus the Ravens. Jackson could of had a much bigger game but overthrown by Philip Rivers, in what would have resulted in a 34 yard touchdown. But as of today Vincent Jackson is  listed as questionable for sunday’s game against the Lions. Given that it’s a late game we highly suggest you have a backup plan in case he can’t go.
