Dennis Allen Says Raiders Uncommitted to 4-3 or 3-4 Defense

On Friday Dennis Allen met with the media and among the points he touched on was the as yet to be determined scheme of the Raiders defense in 2012.

According to Bill Williamson of ESPN, the Raiders will wait to see how the draft shapes up before new defensive coordinator Jason Tarver makes any commitment about which scheme, either 3-4 or 4-3, to run. Per Williamson:

The Raiders have not decided whether they will run a 4-3 or a 3-4 defense. Tarver said that decision will be made after free agency and after the draft, when the Raiders know exactly who is on the team. He said the Raiders will use many multiple sets and will employ both the 4-3 and 3-4 at times. He said several current players on the roster are for the 3-4 schemes.

While the Raiders will attempt to address their many needs on defense through free agency and the draft, the offense appears to be pretty set.

Quarterback Carson Palmer will be inserted into a west coast offense scheme developed by new offensive coordinator Greg Knapp and the line will utilize a zone blocking scheme reminiscent of what the Houston Texans operate with last season.
