The Oakland Raiders continued to fill out the coaching staff by adding two new assistant coaches over the weekend.
Mark Hutson has been named tights ends coach while Johnny Lynn will take over as the defensive backs coach.
Lynn was a defensive back in the NFL for the New York Jets from 1979-1986. His coaching stops include stints with the Buccaneers, 49ers, Giants and Ravens. In 2011 he was the defensive backs coach for the Philadelphia Eagles where he worked with former Raiders standout Nnamdi Asomugha.
With the Oakland secondary much maligned in 2011, the pressure will be on Lynn to turn around a unit that ranked 27th in the league in pass defense. The release of Stanford Routt also creates a void to be filled at starting cornerback that may complicate matters for Lynn.
As for Hutson, last year he started as Tulane’s offensive line coach but took over as interim head coach once former UCLA coach Bob Toledo stepped down. Hutson comes with over 21 years of coaching experience, but all in the college ranks. The Raiders assistant job will be his first foray into the NFL.
