Avoiding Distraction Offers Advantages at the Super Bowl

Written by on January 27, 2012 in Editorials - No comments

I was listening to an interview earlier this week with Jerome Bettis on ESPN radio and he was talking about the the advantages gained by having the discipline to forgo the Super Bowl party circuit and lay low from the frenzy of events that comes with being a Super Bowl participant.

Super Bowl week, Bettis argued, is like a field full of land mines waiting to be stepped on for players who are too easily seduced by the allure of a good time. And certainly with over 3,000 media members coming to visit Indianapolis and innumerable social events on the calender, there will be ample opportunity for distraction.

However, you have to wonder, if these guys can sacrifice just a few days of pre-parties, club events, media requests and spotlight basking, they may gain a competitive advantage over their opponents that catapults them to victory. And hey, once you win the big game, you’ll have the rest of your life to bask if the glory of being a Super Bowl champion.

Still, it’s always fun when the players let their guard down and interact with some of the unique media members who show up to Super Bowl media days.

With that in mind, here’s just a few of some of the best media day moments from the past few years.

Enjoy!
